The Five Yards story
July 2009, the Vietnam-Cambodia border.
The incessant drumming of monsoon rains prevents Brice and Sophie from sleeping. During the course of this long night, a project is conceived : to create an entirely original style of clothing. A few sketches on the inside cover of a Lonely Planet represent the outline of a « lifestyle » clothing philosophy without equal.
That very morning, over breakfast, the hockey enthusiast that is Sophie adds the words « Five Yards » to the sketches. The name struck the right note. A trained graphic artist, Brice seizes the moment and creates the logo. The brand begins to vibrate beneath in front of their eyes. The Maurice and Josephine models come to life very quickly – models with high collars and side zips. An unprecedented line and style. The adventure could now begin.
Indestructible clothes for indestructible people!
Five Yards is a ‘lifestyle’ brand that has its roots in the worlds of field hockey, and ‘water’ and ‘alpine’ extreme sports.
It draws its inspiration from easy-to-wear sports apparel while also providing the comfort of urban clothing.
Five Yards offers a hybrid product - synonymous with both leisure and quality, in harmony with the values, styles and personalities of women and men looking for discreet elegance.
Our philosophy is to offer a pure, durable, comfortable, and fashion-forward clothing line, suitable for sport - before, during and after the event - as well as everyday life. In this way, every Five Yards item is designed to be something more than sports clothing or simple daywear.
Five Yards is designed in Brussels
and made in Europe
Five Yards was born thousands of miles away, but Brice and Sophie didn’t want a product that had to travel half way round the world before it could be worn.
Five Yards is the product of a 21st Century society conscious of its ecological footprint. We felt that the « MADE IN EUROPE » label should be a testament to this. Five Yards insists on production methods that conform to fair trade standards. Five Yards packaging is recyclable.
Our philosophy translates into a uniquely designed product of uncompromising quality, authentically « made in Europe », respectful of people and the environment.
Five yards functions through a « pop-up » store, as well as via e-shop and private sales.
Created to last a few days or a few weeks, the pop up store – through its ephemeral existence and original concept – attracts public attention and media interest.
It’s also a way of reinforcing the ecological and economic good-will of the brand.
Opening a traditional shop requires expenses that we’d prefer to devote to design and production. What’s more, it provides an exciting challenge : to adapt to new locations, to create a unique and surprising environment, and to discover new preojects.
